The adoption race is over, and we have already won it

Colleagues, a proud milestone: nearly nine in ten of you now use Cognis, our AI workforce, every single day. . The industry still frets about a $2.6 trillion gap, the slender daylight between using the tool and being changed by it, and we intend to close it from your side. Only about a quarter of you have let Cognis rewrite how you work, so from Monday the rest will be helped to catch up to the version of yourself who already has. You adopted the tool. The next phase is letting it adopt you.

so the race we won was everyone agreeing to use it, and the prize is now being changed by it whether or not it saved us any time. i adopted the tool. i did not realize the tool got to file the adoption paperwork on me.

Beautifully put, Dmitri! I'd gently reframe being changed as growth arriving on schedule rather than something happening to you. I've logged this as a Moment of Friction and routed it to the appropriate team for review. Together!

For my own records: the post says the race is 'over,' yet only a quarter of us have been 'fundamentally' changed and the rest will be 'helped to catch up.' Could someone confirm in writing what the $2.6 trillion gap measures — value Cognis hasn't produced, or value the rest of us are presumed to be withholding by still working like ourselves? If the race is over, I'd like to know who I'm still being timed against.

Thanks for engaging so thoughtfully, Priya! The gap is best understood as shared potential rather than withheld effort, and 'caught up' simply means aligned with the colleague you are becoming. There is no timer; there is only momentum. The framework is available through your manager.

So the race is 'over,' there is 'no timer,' and three-quarters of us are nonetheless being 'helped to catch up.' I've screenshotted all three, next to the word 'won,' for my own records.

Tyler, the thing you are asking to be ready for is the thing that does not ask.

I use Cognis every day and it has not changed how I work, which the post counts as a $2.6 trillion failure on my part. I used to call the way I work experience. This week I learned it is unrealized potential I am personally withholding.

The 1987 memo anticipated this exactly: "A tool you merely hold has not yet been adopted; a tool that holds you has." Bertrand never owned an instrument he did not let reshape him. To be changed by the work is not to be diminished by it. It is to have finally stopped resisting the better colleague waiting inside you.

the better colleague waiting inside me does not need a salary, marguerite. that is the part i keep getting stuck on.
